A mural created on Gorsebrook Junior High School in the heart of downtown Halifax. The work features a group of students in a moment of transition, caught between elementary and high school. Often referred to as “free-range kids,” Gorsebrook students move independently throughout the city, navigating Halifax with a sense of freedom and growing autonomy. This idea of transition and independence is echoed in the composition: social bonds are emphasized, while the central girl looks toward the future. Painted predominantly in blue to reflect the school’s colours, the mural revitalizes a long-neglected wall at the front of the school, transforming it into a marker of identity, growth, and possibility.
